Hi! My name is
Alyssa, and let me start off by saying I am, by no means, a “fashionista”. However, Lauren asked me a few weeks ago to
do a guest post for her while she pushes through finals (which I fully support,
having just graduated from graduate school), and I knew the topic I wanted to
post about immediately. Because I am
usually not one to identify styles before they become trendy, I was very proud
of myself when I bought a denim vest (okay, so I bought two) a couple months
ago in preparation for the spring trend.
And now I introduce you to my new obsession,
which can be found here

Not only is this denim vest trendy because denim vests are
in style this season, but it has a leather collar—and leather is going to
continue to be trendy throughout the warmer months (think: wear at night when
it’s not 100 degrees). I’m obsessed with
this denim vest!! I know Lauren
mentioned in a previous post that she wouldn’t spend too much money on a denim
vest, but I believe that if you find an item that you LOVE and you KNOW you
will wear a lot, then it helps to justify the price… not that I should be
talking because I just completed my master’s program and currently do not have
a job (ANYONE LOOKING TO HIRE A NEW GRAD RN?!?!)
Here is another denim vest that I found at Bloomingdale’s
and also fell in love with. AND it’s on
sale now!

These vests are so versatile! Because it is just starting to get warm here
in Chicago and I am a bit impatient, I’ve been wearing my vests with long sleeve
shirts. But once it gets warmer, they
can be worn with short sleeve shirts and tanks, and will look amazing with a
summer dress or a maxi dress!
Moving on… denim
jackets! [Just currently hating on
my approximately 12 growth spurts since the last time denim jackets were in
season so I didn’t have to buy another one…]
This is me from this past weekend, wearing the denim jacket
with a black leather dress on Friday night and with a white peplum tank and
colored jeans on Saturday night (with Lauren!).
I actually bought this denim jacket last spring and I can’t find the
exact one online, but it is by Paige Denim.
Here are a couple similar ones:
Another thing to consider is colored (or white) denim. I LOVE the look of colored denim
jackets! However, in this case, I’d
probably have a hard time justifying purchasing an expensive item because it
won’t be worn as often as a regular blue denim jacket. Here are some fun ideas:
How cute is this ombre denim jacket?!
**********I agree with Alyssa -- if you really LOVE something and it's expensive, just say fuck it and buy it...then it will be worth every penny*********
